At Code A Weld, we specialise in offering a full suite of NDT services to our Birmingham clients in order to assess the weld integrity and quality of carbon steels, stainless steels, alloys and structural components. Our work covers both raw materials and finished products from large gas silos and bridges to aerospace components, floor claddings, and even digger buckets.
Visual Inspection (CSWIP and PCN Certified)
Visual inspection is one of the most common and effective forms of NDT. Using advanced tools such as digital cameras, weld gauges, mirrors, and borescopes, our technicians perform detailed inspections to identify surface-breaking defects.
This method is ideal for detecting cracks, undercuts, misalignments, and other visible welding flaws. Our CSWIP and PCN-qualified inspectors ensure accuracy and full compliance with industry standards.
(H2) Liquid Dye Penetrant Inspection
This method is perfect for detecting surface-breaking defects on non-porous materials. A visible or fluorescent dye is applied to the test surface, and after a short dwell time, any surface cracks or flaws become clearly visible. It’s widely used on components made of metal, glass, or ceramics.
Magnetic Particle Inspection
Used mainly for ferromagnetic materials, Magnetic Particle Testing (MPI) detects surface and near-surface defects. By applying magnetic fields and fine iron particles, any flaws become visible as indications on the material surface. This technique is ideal for weld testing on carbon steels and castings.
Ultrasonic Inspection
Ultrasonic Testing (UT) uses high-frequency sound waves to detect internal flaws in metals, composites, and welds. It provides accurate depth measurements and identifies cracks, inclusions, and porosity inside materials, all without damaging the part being tested.
Portable Hardness Testing
This method evaluates the hardness of a material on-site, helping determine its strength and suitability for a particular application. It’s quick, efficient, and doesn’t require removing the material from service.
Positive Material Identification
PMI testing confirms the chemical composition of metals to ensure that the correct materials have been used during manufacturing or repair. It’s an essential quality assurance step for critical components.
Radiography
Radiographic Testing (RT) uses X-rays or gamma rays to produce images of the internal structure of components. It helps identify internal flaws like voids, inclusions, or cracks that cannot be seen with the naked eye.
